The purpose of the Hybrid device is to keep the head from whipping in a crash. This prevents excessive rotational movement without restricting movement of the neck. The head is able to move normally but restricted from movement exceeding normal articulation range of the musculoskeletal system. In any crash the body is decelerated by the harness or seat belt. The head maintains velocity until decelerated by the neck. The device maintains the relative position of the head to the body. Hybrid FHRs transfer energy to chest, torso, shoulder, seat belts, and seat as the head is decelerated.
