The purpose of the Hybrid device is to keep the head from whipping in a crash. This prevents excessive rotational movement without restricting movement of the neck. The Hybrid device allows the head to move normally but prevents or restricts head movements during a crash that would exceed the normal range of the musculoskeletal system. In any kind of crash the body is decelerated by the harness. The head maintains velocity until decelerated by the neck. Simpson’s Hybrid maintains the position of the head to the body, transferring energy to chest, torso, shoulder, seat belts, and seat as the head is decelerated.
